For Immediate Release:
RUTLAND CITY, Vermont, July 31, 2023

RESIDENTS OF:
Danby, Hubbardton, Ira, Killington, Mendon, Mount Holly, Mount Tabor, Pittsfield, Proctor, Wallingford, Wells, and West Rutland.

Rutland County Solid Waste District has received a Solid Waste Management Grant from the USDA Rural Development in the amount of $34,000.00. This was made possible with the submission of letters of support from each town and a good plan. The District has met with each town’s Selectboard to discuss the project and assist in the reduction of each town’s reliance on landfills through efforts in waste reduction, reuse, and recycling programs. Each resident’s home has received an informational packet in their mailbox providing them with information on the benefits, cost savings, tools, and value doing their part to participate in saving the environment.  Composers and blue bins are provided at a drastically reduced rate to assist in managing waste daily.

The project goals are to increase recycling and compost rates by utilizing outreach and educational community engagements.  The project works to align the knowledge base within 12 of the District’s most rural communities with new laws, practices, and innovative tools where proficiency is needed to be efficient and successful when managing solid waste.  These efforts will help the District in its mission to reduce reliance on landfills through waste reduction, reuse, and recycling programs.

Participation is a simple three step process that can be completed in a few minutes. For more information and assistance, reach out to Brian Sales, Outreach Coordinator at (802) 775-7209 ext. 206 or email at outreach@rcswd.com.
