Yard Waste Collections

Vermonters know about composting, and how large volumes of leaves, grass and other organic wastes can be naturally reduced in volume and recycled as rich natural fertilizer. But what if you live in a city with limited yard space?

District residents can take advantage of the yard waste composting program operated at the Gleason Road Transfer Station. The district accepts leaves and grass and separately brush up to 24 inches in diameter and unlimited length for a fee of $5 per pickup truck load, and grinds this material into chips. The leaves and grass clippings are used in a food waste compost program. The brush is chipped and sold to a biomass facility for the generation of electricity. We also screen the composted materials for a final product is available as a screened ready-for-the-garden finished product at $20.00 per ton (available soon!). We will even load you truck – at no extra charge – while you wait!
