Vermonters know about composting, and how large
volumes of leaves, grass and other organic wastes can be naturally
reduced in volume and recycled as rich natural fertilizer. But what
if you live in a city with limited yard space?
District residents can take advantage of the yard waste composting
program operated at the Gleason Road Transfer Station. The district
accepts leaves, grass and brush up to four inches in diameter for
a fee of $5 per pickup truck load, and grinds this material into
chips that make a good organic mulch, or after being composted for
a year, a rich soil amendment. The final product is available for
free as a coarse, unscreened compost or as a screened ready-for-the-garden
finished product at $20.00 per ton (available soon!). We will even
load you truck – at no extra charge – while you wait!
