Clean Sheetrock |

Under this program, clean
drywall can be recycled for $65 per ton, vs. $95 for sorted
C&D or $126 for unsorted C&D. What’s the second largest
component of the commercial construction waste stream? Statistics
indicate that it’s drywall. Making up 20 percent of the commercial
construction waste stream, drywall is second only to wood, in quantity.
Nationally, commercial construction waste represents over four million
tons each year. This means that annually, 854,000 tons of drywall
are available for recovery from commercial construction projects alone.
The recycling plant imposes strict requirements
on contamination:
1.) Clean sheetrock only, NO DEMO WASTE.
Any painted, primed or otherwise decorated wallboard (vinyl, foil,
wallpapered, etc.) must be treated as sorted C&D or trash. In
other words: new construction waste only.
2.) No wet board, screws, nails, wood, or adhesives.
3.) Must be dumped or offloaded directly into designated container.
4.) Vehicles must weigh in and out. |
